FREE WEBSITES TO AID RESEARCH
Family Tree Magazine link to free sites:

National Genealogical Society

In addition to Ancestry.com and newspapers.com, which require a paid subscription, below are websites that I constantly use. Be careful of Ancestry trees, as that info is only as good as the “researcher” who submitted it.
-
www.FamilySearch.org You will have to set up an account.
-
www.findagrave.com I would caution you not to use information from this site unless there is a headstone with dates or an obituary.
-
www.fold3.com Free from Cincinnati Library to card holders. Military records.
-
www.probatect.org Hamilton County, Ohio court-records › archive-categories, including early marriages. This site is sometimes a bit tricky to use.
-
www.nps.gov Database for Andersonville, Georgia prisoners.
-
www.chroniclingamerica Source for newspapers.
-
www.archives.gov National archives record forms
-

In addition, search:
-
Funeral home websites for obituaries.
-
Historical and Genealogy Societies in area you are searching.
-
If burial info is not available at findagrave, contact local cemeteries for information.
